2019 11 23 vitek idVitek Jirinec grew up in the Czech Republic and moved to the US to pursue a career in ecology. He got his BSc in wildlife ecology at Humboldt State University in California and MSc in biology at the College of William & Mary in Virginia and is currently working on his PhD at Louisiana State University under Phil Stouffer, with research at the BDFFP. Before graduate school, Vitek worked as a seasonal ornithologist in Costa Rica, Jamaica, Texas, Oregon, Alaska, and Hawaii. His research interests include the movement, space use, and sleeping habits of birds. Currently, he uses tracking devices to study bird microclimate use at the BDFFP, as well as migratory pathways of songbirds and the use of urban areas by owls in the US.
